A Caféchurch in the Marketplace

Breakout Session
11:00 - 12:00
, November 18
November 18

The church used to be the centre of a town, or shopping street. Since the secular age, the church doesn't really play a part in the marketplace anymore. Ella and Remmelt did research on how a church could become a third place in the middle of the marketplace. It took three years of planning, creating vision and fundraising to create a caféchurch. But today it is a reality. In this workshop Ella will take you through their story of how this church plant found its vision in a suburb of Amsterdam. Get ready for multiple ideas of how to incorporate a business in a church plant and hear about why this combination gives the church her voice back in the marketplace.

Ella van den Brandhof

Ella is a church planter, entrepreneur, and theologian in Amsterdam. She joined the church plant for her internship but has been there ever since. She is a young single theologian who likes looking for connections between the gospel and our ever-so-busy day-to-day life. Specially in a city full of single, hard workin people we tend to forget we need to slow down and look for rest and peace to fully connext to the gospel. With Hemelsbreed she and her team try to create a warm hospital café were people can find some of those things. They combine a third place cafe with church plant to make it more accessible and open for the whole neighbourhood.
