City to City Europe

Creating Churches Among the Urban Poor

Breakout Session
11:00 - 12:00
, November 19
November 19

In large European cities, homeless people, internally displaced persons, and poor people live next to us. How to serve them? How to effectively bring the Gospel to them? Is it enough to invite those who want to join existing urban churches, or would it be better to create separate church communities for them? What challenges will you inevitably face if you bring the Gospel to the urban poor? Why does God call us to such service? We will be able to talk about all this at the planned seminar.

Ihor Shemihon

Ihor Shemihon, pastor of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church, Kyiv, Ukraine. For the past seven years, I have been combining church service with work in the public organization "House of Mercy Kyiv", which provides comprehensive assistance to the homeless. Several hundred homeless people pass through the organization's social centers every year, including the elderly homeless, people with disabilities, and internally displaced persons. Since most of the organization's employees and volunteers are Christians, relationships are formed between us and our clients. We bring the Gospel to those who want it and invite them to the local church. Some of the homeless become Christians.
