City to City Europe

Planting a church without losing your soul (in practice)

Breakout Session
14:00 - 15:00
, November 19
November 19

It is a challenging reality across all networks: Church planting in Europe has not only produced new gospel-centered communities, but also far too many stories of planters drowning in burnout, despair, or even becoming intensely harmful to those they lead. Beneath the surface, these stories often have one thing in common: a depleted, distracted, driven, and lonely leader.

We can’t keep going like this. In this breakout, we’ll pause and honestly explore some of the internal (heart) dynamics and ministry patterns that pull us toward this place – and how we can start leading (again) out of a deep awareness that God is present.

Alex Deuscher

Alex planted a church in Berlin in 2013 focused on reaching an atheistic neighborhood. A 2021 sabbatical led to profound personal and spiritual renewal, resulting in the launch of "Quiet Heart Journey," an initiative equipping church planters and leaders. Having transitioned leadership of his church to a successor, Alex now works with Europe Collaboration (EC). He lives in Berlin with his wife Shannon and their two young children.
